Biosketch

Professor Petra Brysiewicz is a full professor at the School of Nursing & Public Health at UKZN, with over 27 years of experience in nursing education and research, focusing on acute and emergency care across South Africa and Africa.A National Research Foundation B-rated researcher, she is also a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, President of the Academy of Nursing of South Africa, and President-Elect of the International Family Nursing Association. Brysiewicz serves as the Editor-in-Chief of International Emergency Nursing and is a leader in the DRILL programme at UKZN, which the NIH’s Fogarty International Center funds. Her passion for critical care and emergency/trauma nursing continues to inspire at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, where she also mentors the next generation of healthcare leaders.

Research Interests

Research capacity development, research leadership, mentorship as well as family focused care/collaboration, specifically within acute care. Much of her research is conducted qualitative approaches or mixed methods
