BIOSKETCH Professor Frasia Oosthuizen is an Associate Professor at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where she has established herself as an expert in drug safety and pharmacy education. She holds a BPharm (1996), MSc in Pharmacology (1999), and PhD in Pharmacology (2004) from Potchefstroom University for CHE (now North-West University). With over two decades of experience, Prof. Oosthuizen’s research focuses primarily on pharmacovigilance, particularly medicine safety profiles and patient empowerment. She has successfully supervised 25 Masters and 10 PhD students and her work has been presented at numerous international and national conferences. At the University of KwaZulu-Natal, she has served in several key administrative roles, including Academic Leader for Teaching & Learning in the School of Health Sciences. Her expertise extends beyond the university through her service on the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) as a member of the Naming & Scheduling Committee and her involvement with the South African Pharmacy Council’s accreditation processes. She maintains active membership in professional organizations including the South African Association of Health Educationalists and the International Society of Pharmacovigilance. As a registered Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council, she continues to bridge the gap between academic research and professional practice.
