BIOSKETCH
Mr Meluleki Sanele Thethwayo, originally from EMfekayi in Mtubatuba on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal, is a junior lecturer in Physiotherapy at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). His academic journey began at UKZN in 2015, where he completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2018. Following graduation, he worked at Ngwelezana Hospital in Empangeni for four years, gaining valuable clinical experience. In 2020, he pursued an MSc in Physiotherapy, specialising in cardiopulmonary care within the ICU setting, and graduated cum laude in early 2021.

In January 2023, Thethwayo returned to UKZN as a lecturer, where he now teaches cardiopulmonary physiotherapy to third- and fourth-year students and supervises four master’s students. His primary research interest lies in cardiopulmonary care in the ICU, and he recently published a paper in the South African Journal of Physiotherapy. Additionally, he has developed an interest in disability studies and is currently pursuing a PhD focused on disability in the public healthcare sector.
