BIOSKETCH
Joy Msomi is a dedicated lecturer in the Discipline of Physiotherapy at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. With a strong passion for clinical education and research, committed to shaping the next generation of physiotherapists through innovative teaching and evidence-based practice. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy from UKZN and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Intervention from the University of Pretoria and I have over 12 years of experience in clinical practice in peadiatrics private sector. My areas of interest include peadiatric physiotherapy, peadiatrics oncology rehabilitation, and musculoskeletal disorders, focusing on improving rehabilitation services. Currently actively involved in research on peadiatric oncology physiotherapy in KwaZulu-Natal. This work aims to enhance physiotherapy interventions for children undergoing cancer treatment and contribute to policy development for specialised rehabilitation services. In addition to teaching undergraduate physiotherapy students, I’m also engaged in Level 4 module coordination, clinical supervision, and postgraduate students to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical application, ensuring students gain comprehensive skills to excel in the field. As an emerging researcher and educator, I aspire to contribute to advancements in physiotherapy education and rehabilitation strategies, fostering a culture of lifelong learning and evidence-based practice in South Africa.
