BIOSKETCH
Dr Chara Biggs is a Lecturer in Dietetics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) with over 25 years of experience in clinical nutrition, teaching, and research. She holds a PhD in Dietetics and has established a focused research profile in hydration science and HIV-related nutrition. Her work contributes to improving nutritional care and health outcomes within the South African and broader African context.
Dr Biggs is a dedicated educator who is deeply committed to student development, actively supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and fostering critical thinking and evidence-based practice. Her teaching integrates clinical expertise with current research, preparing students for diverse roles in dietetics and public health nutrition.
She is a founding member of the Association for Dietetics in South Africa (ADSA) and is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Dr Biggs remains committed to advancing the dietetics profession through research, mentorship, and engagement with key health challenges facing South Africa.
