Master of Nursing in Education
OVERVIEW
This qualification will provide a career path for nurses and nurse educators who would like to specialize
within the field of Nursing Education. Students learning towards this qualification will become advanced
nurse practitioners within the area of Nursing Education as determined by the South African Nursing
Council. With the transformations in nursing education resulting from the move of education and training of
nurses and midwives away from the Department of Health to Higher Education, the dynamic healthcare
system that is characterized by clients with multiple and complex conditions, the need for nurse educators
with in-depth knowledge of the higher education systems in South Africa, management of education and
training as it has been managed by the Department of Health in the past, quality promotion and assurance
systems in higher education and innovative ways of teaching and assessing students that will develop field
of specialization as well as the transferrable core skills which are regarded as critical cross-field outcomes
in the country.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates are eligible to apply for selection to register for the qualification Master of Nursing,
provided they have a;
- Bachelor of Nursing, or
- Bachelor of Nursing Honours or
- A Nursing Postgraduate Diploma
